Lotteries are almost entirely down to luck so it is more difficult to form a strategy to win the lottery than it is when you are betting on, for example, sports or playing blackjack.
However, here are a few hints and tips that might help you when placing a bet on one of the many national lotteries that you can gamble on:
Remember that it’s a long shot!
The odds against you winning a lottery are huge, so be realistic. Play for fun rather than for profit, and you won’t be disappointed if you don’t win. A modest win on a lottery is worth celebrating as few people are likely to win a lottery jackpot!
Playing a lottery with more than one set of numbers does not necessarily give you a better chance of winning.
Winning is sheer luck. This is not a skill-based form of gambling! Playing a lottery with more than one selection of numbers may give you more hope, but realistically you won’t have any more chance of winning, and you will be making a higher stake.
Using the same set of numbers every time doesn’t necessarily mean that you are more likely to win.
Try changing your numbers every time you play. The lottery is a random selection of the same set of numbers every time, unlike a raffle where the set of numbers decrease with each draw. The number could come up six times in a row or never be drawn at all!
Another disadvantage of using the same set of numbers every time is that if for some reason you don’t play a lottery for one draw and some of your usual numbers are drawn, you will always regret the fact that you missed out. If you use different numbers each time, your chances of winning will be the same, but you can choose when you do and don’t want to play without worrying that this may be the draw when your numbers are finally drawn.
Don’t just use birth dates!
Usingthe birth dates of members of your family may make you feel as if you are using lucky numbers, but if you simply use these it can put you at a disadvantage, as you will share those dates with others. This means that if you do win the jackpot, there is more chance of it being shared. It is usually better to include at least one high number over 31, as this will decrease the chance of sharing the prize.
Don’t bother with tips from newsletters.
They may stumble upon winning numbers but are no more likely to be winners than your own random guess.
Random number generators do no better than you.
After all, when you think of a number, you have randomly generated it haven’t you?
Remember the other prizes.
There are smaller prizes offered, so look out for them too. Make sure you keep any money you win and treat yourself rather than spending more money buying extra lottery tickets for the next game. Due to the random nature of the Lottery, ploughing your money back in does not work!
